Learn to Serve: Facilitating the Development of Servant Leaders

How can experienced and emerging leaders develop the characteristics and skills of true Servant Leaders? These characteristics, as described by Juana Bordas, Malcolm Gladwell, and others, include listening, empathy, healing, awareness, persuasion, conceptualization, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of others, and building community.

In this session we will explore how these characteristics support and encourage leadership development and organizational effectiveness.

Participants will experience an introduction to Servant Leadership, based on the work of the Greenleaf Center and the classic essay, The Servant Leader, by Robert K. Greenleaf.  We will review the basic tenets of a servant leader philosophy and credo, as well as discuss how servant leadership applies to those in board, management, staff, and volunteer roles.

Sessions are customized to meet your learning and development goals and can range in length from a 90-minute introduction to a full day session and beyond. Participants’ experience and roles will be considered as part of training customization.
